Description
Megalodon Shark ToothOtodus megalodon
Miocene
North Carolina, USA
3.33 x 2.82 x 0.74 inches (8.47 x 7.17 x 1.88 cm)
This fossil shark tooth of the Otodus megalodon variety has a fabulous shape featuring a tapered blade that culminates in a nice tip. The grayish-black blade is slick and glassy with visible spot inclusions of a stark 'inky' black hue. Fine serrations, and a nearly pristine bourlette as well as fairly solid root structure, characterize this stunning "Meg" tooth, from near Savannah, Georgia. Measuring over 3 inches (8.4 cm) on edge, this example of prehistoric shark dentition is not small relative to any modern Great White tooth and is simply exquisite in terms of shape. This is a visually elegant and highly collectible specimen.
[Scale: 2-inch Great White tooth]
