Found in 1917 during the World War I era in Hale County, Texas, the Plainview meteorite is an Ordinary Chondrite - designation of H5. First published by George Merrill, Plainview is associated with legendary meteorite hunter Harvey Nininger. This beautiful polished slab has a mottled yet rich brown coloration, and tiny metallic sparkles cover the smooth surface when angled properly under direct light. This thick, free-form shape offering exhibits number "92.781" consistent with the American Meteorite Laboratory system on the rough back. Based on weight, Plainview is one of the largest of all American meteorites.
