PROVENANCE:
Private collection, Canyon, Texas.

Rolla Sims Taylor was born in Galveston and reared in Cuero, Texas. Moving to San Antonio with his family in 1889, he studied under Jose Arpa and Robert Julian Onderdonk. Taylor was one of the earliest painters to work in the Big Bend. He loved painting San Antonio views, and his scenes of Texas history won honors from the Texas State Historical and Landmark Association
