Description
Woolly Mammoth Tusk SectionMammuthus primigenius
Pleistocene
Alaska, USA
6.59 x 1.87 x 0.53 inches (16.75 x 4.76 x 1.35 cm)
This fantastic section of fossilized tusk from a prehistoric Woolly Mammoth is relatively thick with an intact interior section that is rather rare in these types of offerings. The 6.60-inch (16.75 cm) long example features the characteristic creamy coloration with large patches of "dendritic" veins with a grayish-blue hue running up and down lengthwise. Contrasting against the colorful blue Vivianite replacement on the outer layer of the tusk is the bright tan color of the interior of the tusk, ensuring that all angles are compelling. This is a great specimen in excellent condition.
