Clementine Hunter was an acclaimed African-American folk artist from Louisiana, renowned for her vibrant, narrative depictions of rural Southern life. A self-taught artist, Hunter crafted her work with candid simplicity, capturing the spirit and daily life of the Cane River region where she resided. From cotton picking to wash days, baptisms to funerals, her illustrative scenes unfolded like visual anecdotes on her canvas. Despite not starting her artistic journey until later in life, Hunter's artistic legacy is profound, leaving a compelling visual record of rural Southern life in the 20th century.
