Description

Dennis Blagg (American, b. 1951)
Tarrant County Courthouse
Oil on paper laid on canvas
20 x 29-3/4 inches (50.8 x 75.6 cm)
Signed indistinctly lower right: Dennis Blagg

The present work is a study for a larger work currently in the collection of The Museum of Southeast Texas in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Dennis Blagg, brother of fellow Texas artist Dan Blagg, grew up immersed in the Texas art community. A self-taught artist, his work is held in private collections across Texas. He has had over thirty group and solo exhibitions at galleries and museums, including ones at Gerald Peters Gallery, Artspace 111, Barry Whistler Gallery, The Museum of Fines Arts in Houston, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Blagg is best known for breathtaking paintings of the Texas landscape, particularly those from the Big Bend area. His huge, hyper-realistic canvases capture the sweeping vistas and surrealistic quality of far Southwest Texas, making him one of the most successful contemporary artists working in Texas today.
