Description
Andradite var. DemantoidAntetezambato Demantoid-Topazolite Mine, Antsakoamanondro, Ambanja, Diana, Madagascar
"A cluster of well formed almost cm sized demantoid crystals on matrix. Specimen is from Daniel Detrin [sic]."
- Rock H. Currier
Rock and his unique version of English strikes again. I'm sure Daniel will be delighted with his new name. At one point Daniel Trinchillo had the lion's share of these little monsters that caused conspicuous oohing and ahhing when the buyers hit town for the Tucson show many years back. These represent some of the newer discoveries of Andradite, along with the ones from Namibia. Neither have the extreme levels of Chromium that characterize the classic Russian material, but there haven't been a lot of big ones emerging from Vladimir's backyard any time recently, so this was why it was the hot thing when they were discovered. The color is a pale green with atypical blue overtones that is strangely attractive in a subtly different way. If you didn't glom one then, you should have.
Overall Measurements: 2.4 x 1.8 x 1.6 inches (6.0 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm)
Weight: 74.2 grams
Offered at no reserve
Provenance: Purchased from Daniel Trinchillo (Fine Minerals International) [RHC# 8725, acquired May 2014] [MinID: PJH-5V5]
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
