A form of impactite resulting from a meteorite hitting the Earth, Libyan Desert Glass is one unique variety of material. This example, weighing 218 grams, is extremely translucent and also exhibits an impressive yellowish-green coloration. Highly textural over its varied rugged surface that even still displays remnants of desert sand, this sample also has a single thumbprint-sized indentation that likely was a smoothed conchoidal fracture, further confirming the material is a variety of glass. The representation rests securely on a relatively broad, flat section of the irregularly shaped formation.
