Description
Gibeon Meteorite End CutIron, IVA
Great Nama Land, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
Found: 1836
A true "best of both worlds" offering, this end cut has an etched primary display face as well as a highly contrasting natural exterior. This exceptional specimen of the Gibeon Meteorite that fell in Namibia weighs a substantial 7.6 kilograms (16.8 pounds) and is a superb display specimen with two incredible surfaces about as different as any could be. Measuring 10 inches (25 cm) long, the meteorite is as significant in size as it is in weight. Gibeon material is considered some of the very best in terms of Irons, and the superlative Widmanstätten pattern on the etched face is extremely intricate and captivating. In excellent overall condition, the complex, undulating, darker brownish-colored exterior is replete with severe cratering over its entirety, and the mountainous form has a pronounced taper down to a thin, sharp, and horseshoe-shaped termination. This beautiful piece offers both supreme aesthetics and a majestic size. This is a top example based on every criterion.
Measurements: 10.04 x 5.35 x 3.54 inches (25.50 x 13.60 x 9.00 cm), weighs 7.6 kilograms (16.8 pounds)
