Description

Quartz with Rutile
Minas Gerais, Brazil

Rock was not only a dealer in chunks of mantel dressing, he also succumbed to the demon lure of such things, as you can tell from this smoky "Tower of Power" buried in his personal collection. Granted, it does have a fascinating arrangement of long Rutile needles cleverly oriented parallel to the long axis of the piece and accented by floating "clouds" of some unidentified detritus. Its unique charm is probably enough to get him off the hook as a collector of 'kitsch', except for the other things in his collection. "Tant pis" [too bad] as Hunter Thompson observed more than once. This is an exceptional Smoky Quartz obelisk with remarkable Rutile inclusions, but there is absolutely no commentary from Currier about it in any of his collection records ... oh well.
