Description

NWA 12765 Lunar Meteorite Slice
Lunar (feldsp. breccia)
Northwest Africa
Found: 2019

This slice of meteorite representing NWA 12765 weighs 109 grams and exhibits extensive surface area. Such lunar feldspathic breccia material displays a myriad of colorful and varied-sized clasts, as can be easily seen on this polished thin slab with a gray matrix populated by inclusions ranging in size from large to small and varying in color from black to white. The shape of the slice of rock from the Moon resembles the silhouette of a running shoe in the abstract. At over 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) in maximum dimension, this slab is sizable, and a most unique variety of material from the surface of the Earth's sole natural satellite. This brecciated example is quite beautiful in appearance, and the riverine, linear formations over the smooth surface add a further dimension of contrast to this truly compelling meteorite slice. The overall grayish coloration of this offering is the ideal backdrop for a mix of light and dark hues, as exhibited in this excellent slabbed specimen which was found in 2019.
Measurements: 6.61 x 4.53 x 0.17 inches (16.80 x 11.50 x 0.42 cm), weighs 109 grams
