Found: January 24, 2000

Extremely thin, and with a bit of a "wood-like" quality to the patterned surface, this slice of Dhofar 019 represents a Martian meteorite of the shergottite variety. Found in Oman in 2000, the fall was just one stone with a Total Known Weight of only 1,056 grams, making even a relatively small piece like this example, weighing 11.1 grams, still a significant amount of the total meteorite. Specimens of meteorites from Planet Mars are inherently rare, and the offering is certainly something special. The relatively sizable surface area is covered in contrast, color, and clasts of a unique, darker hue. The delicate slab offers a pleasing shape, an unusual appearance, and a beautiful mix of colors.
