Description
Gold Nuggets (Group of 5) - 53.93 Grams (1.73 Troy Ounces) TotalJosephine Creek Mining District, Josephine County, Oregon, USA & Gold Hill Mining District, Jackson County, Oregon, USA
This group Lot consists of a quintet of Gold Nuggets from two historical mining districts in Oregon -
Josephine Creek and Gold Hill. Spanning hundreds of years, some of these nuggets were found by local miners using pans, underwater dredges, and metal detectors, while others were found back in the 1850s by miners, and Chinese laborers, using techniques like hydraulic washing of hillsides, sluice boxes, and pans. Such historical pieces conjure up old and romantic images of mining in the Western United States and are chronicled in useful books like Oregon's GOLDEN YEARS by Miles F. Potter. Each of the smaller specimens has its own individual attributes as well as shapes and sizes. All exhibit the brassy coloration typical of nuggets from the region and show smooth surfaces from the effects of alluvial weathering or other natural forces. The collective weight of the group of five is 53 grams which equates to 1.73 troy ounces total. The adorable little nuggets from quite a unique locality offer a rather simple way to have nicer representations of the precious metal telling a story.
Longest Nugget Measurements: 1.07 x 0.55 x 0.15 inches (2.72 x 1.4 x 0.39 cm), total weight 53.93 grams (1.73 oz t)
