Description

Imilac Meteorite "Skeletons" (Group of 3)
Pallasite, PMG
Antofagasta, Chile - (24° 12' 12"S, 68° 48' 24"W
Found: 1822

Imilac has long been considered one of the more collectible varieties of pallasite, and a unique form of the meteorite is known as a "skeleton," which is the result of the metallic structure remaining after the olivine crystals have weathered out, leaving specimens with sharp features and complex form. Geoff Notkin found this trio with a total weight of 47 grams during the filming of his Meteorite Men series in the episode "Hidden Atacama Gems, Chile" (Season 2, Episode 2). This find is also well chronicled in Notkin's second memoir, Rock Star. A signed Certificate of Authenticity comes with this set of Imilac "skeletons" with overall light coloration, even a pinkish-tan hue, and every piece boasts a dynamic and complex shape with lots of dimensionality. These are wonderful products of the iconic Atacama Desert.
Measurements: 1.56 x 1.02 x 0.67 inches (3.95 x 2.59 x 1.70 cm) - largest piece, total weight 47.1 grams
