Description
FluoriteRogerley Mine, County Durham, England, UK
The Rogerley Mine has produced amazing plates of these intense green Fluorites in the last decade or so, and this is a prime example of why they are so valued for their intense color and style. This large plate hosts many penetration-twinned Fluorite crystals, to 2.3 cm across, that are lustrous and transparent to translucent. The green color is very rich, and the crystals exhibit the whitish inclusions that look like clustered snowflakes, so characteristic of many of these. For sheer color impact for the value, these English Fluorites compete well with the best Fluorites from any locale. These crystals have an even more intense green color and a stunning fluorescence effect in sunlight. These glow a rich purple in long-wave ultraviolet light. Mining for these is the only major specimen recovery operation still going in England today. This example would be an older specimen. It comes with a custom engraved lucite base on which it sits flat. The exquisite offering was purchased directly from the Fluorite Mining Ventures company of dealers Cal Graeber and Jessie Fisher sometime in the early 2000s.
