This most unique collectible keepsake consists of a partial LIFE Magazine cover featuring two giant figures in the world of surgical medicine. Representing an article entitled "A Bitter Feud: Two Great Surgeons at War Over the Human Heart" from April 10, 1970, that very much public rivalry between Denton Cooley, MD and Michael Debakey, MD was chronicled in the popular American publication. The dual image features tightly cropped images of each of the legendary Texas cardiologists in their surgical gear, with partial caps and masks visible. The primary focus for each shot is the eyes, with Dr. Debakey wearing his 'characteristic' eyeglasses. Of course, it is the signatures of BOTH on this piece that make it so special - even more so given the notable acrimony between the two surgeons during most of their careers. The top image of Dr. Cooley is signed as "Denton A. Cooley, MD" with "2-24-09" underneath it in black ink, and the bottom image of Dr. Debakey is signed as "Michael E. Debakey" in black ink. The autographs were authenticated by Beckett authorization 00016481068.
