Description

Franconia Meteorite
Chondrite, H5
Mojave, Arizona, USA - (34° 42' 59"N, 114° 13' 19"W)
Found: 2002

A superb, very large, and complete example of the Franconia Meteorite is a bit of an understatement for this massive 'whole' stone weighing 9,988 grams (22 pounds). This monstrous brown meteorite is one of the largest stones recovered from the site and a spectacular sample of a regmaglypted stony meteorite. Covered in large "thumbprints" over its visually glorious and highly textural surface, this is a world-class specimen that may be THE best-known example of Franconia in existence. A photo of this specific piece was included in an article about the program Meteorite Men, which appeared in the Spring 2010 issue of The Explorers Journal, the official publication of the prestigious Explorers Club. An original copy of the journal accompanies this meteorite. This H5 Chondrite was found in 2002 in the Arizona Mojave Desert. The combination of quality, singularity, and size with this offering results in an absolutely superb sample. This golden-brownish museum specimen is visually impressive and one exceptional large display piece.
Measurements: 9.45 x 7.87 x 6.69 inches (24.00 x 20.00 x 17.00 cm), weighs 9,988 grams

Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
