Description

Jepara Meteorite Slice - 28.6 Grams
Pallasite, PMG
Jawa Tengah, Indonesia - (6° 36'S, 110° 44'E)
Found: 2008

This extremely thin section of meteorite slab represents the rare Pallasite variety known as Jepara. Less than 200 of some 71,000 classified meteorites are Pallasites, and this is not a variety often seen for sale, even though that fall resulted in a massive Total Known Weight of 499.5 kilograms (1,00 pounds). Found in Indonesia in 2008, the material shows an abundance of Olivine crystals within the metallic composition of the meteorite. In this case, this slice - highly translucent and stunning on both faces - and weighing a scant 28.6 grams, exhibits a relatively large surface area over the colorful, intense, and saturated exterior of the incredibly beautiful material. There are a few tactile bumps and dents on the piece, measuring 3.8 inches (9.7 cm) on its longest edge. The concentration of golden gem material gives the partially squarely shaped offering a glorious, warm overall coloration. With its most unusual appearance, this does not look like any other meteorite.
Measurements: 3.83 x 3.72 x 0.05 inches (9.74 x 9.45 x 0.13 cm), weighs 28.6 grams
