Description
Imilac Meteorite Slice - 23.3 GramsPallasite, PMG
Antofagasta, Chile - (24° 12' 12"S, 68° 48' 24"W)
Found: 1822
Inherently rare, Pallasites represent less than 200 of some 71,000 classified meteorites, and some are the cream of the crop, including Imilac. Out of the Atacama Desert in Chile, the variety was first found in 1822 and is highly prized by collectors for the high concentration of Olivine crystals, which, of course, is what makes the Pallasite group so visually striking. While not a large piece, weighing in at just 23.3 grams, the stunning example displays an abundance of crystals of a relatively very large size. The thin section has a wonderful shape, is extremely translucent, and has great visual appeal.
Measurements: 2.31 x 1.81 x 0.11 inches (5.87 x 4.60 x 0.27 cm), weighs 23.3 grams
