Description

Topaz var. Imperial Topaz on Quartz
Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil
7.6 x 7.0 x 4.4 cm (2.99 x 2.76 x 1.73 in)

Known as the mineral capital of Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto is an old mining locality that has produced magnificent Topaz specimens that have earned the nickname "Imperial Topaz" for their rich golden color and vitreous quality. The crystal stretching 6.1 centimeters across this piece has a lovely orange color that is both gemmy and fiery from the inside out. Most of the Imperial Topaz from this locality are found as singular crystals, rarely ever seen on any sort of matrix. So it is surprising to see this already impressive Imperial Topaz resting beautifully on a crystallized Quartz matrix, which in itself is extremely lustrous and beautifully striated. This results in an incredible aesthetic that is hard to match, not to mention the quality of the Topaz itself! The backside is completely recrystallized, and tucked away towards the base are nice, minor additions of Imperial Topaz.

More Information: This specimen is in excellent condition, with one restoration in the Topaz.
