Cobalt-Bearing Calcite

The cobalt present in this unusual Calcite specimen is concentrated within the uppermost crystals, which have a uniquely organic arrangement to them, creating a stark contrast of pink on top of the otherwise white specimen. Each crystal has a strong vitreous luster that makes each crystal in the small alcove glimmer. The lowermost portion of this specimen is a beautifully formed, and rather sharp Calcite rhombohedron that acts as a pedestal for its hot-pink, "Cobaltoan'' counterpart. The contrast in form in this single specimen is very unusual, with an almost scepter-like shape.
