Description
Muonionalusta Meteorite Slice - 204.2 GramsIron, IVA
Norrbottens, Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E)
Found: 1906
A most unique slab of any type of meteorite, this flat "wrench" or even "lobster claw" depending on one's perspective just happens to represent 204 grams of the world-renowned Muonionalusta Iron, IVA, which was first found in Sweden in 1906. The visitor from Outer Space that landed in the Arctic Circle is considered one of THE oldest meteorites on Earth and dates to the age of the formation of the solar system. Relatively thin, especially for having a maximum length of 8.5 inches (21.6 cm), the specimen is strong and solid in testament to its metallic composition. Of course, a Widmanstätten pattern on both of the equally compelling surfaces, even more than the shape, is what makes this a fabulous representation of an iconic meteorite. This is one remarkable and singular meteorite slab.
Measurements: 8.50 x 3.78 x 0.08 inches (21.60 x 9.60 x 0.20 cm), weighs 204.2 grams
