Description

Trilobites

Trilobite Fossil
Eccaparadoxides pradoanus
Middle Cambrian
Solenopleuropsisribeiroi biozone, Zaragoza, Spain

This well-preserved specimen of Eccaparadoxides pradoanus, originating from the Middle Cambrian strata of Zaragoza, Spain, represents an important and attractive example of early Trilobite evolution. With its broad cephalon, fine thoracic segmentation, and overall structural symmetry, the fossil offers both aesthetic and scientific appeal. Specimens of Eccaparadoxides and closely related genera have been found in paleontologically rich regions such as Wales, Newfoundland, Morocco, and the Czech Republic. The presence of this genus across now-distant continents supports key tenets of plate tectonic theory, providing evidence that these landmasses were once connected as part of the ancient supercontinent Gondwana. This specimen is not only a beautiful representative of early marine arthropod life, but also a meaningful contributor to the geological narrative of Earth's shifting continents.
Overall Measurements: 6.30 x 4.61 x 1.98 inches (16.00 x 11.70 x 5.02 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
