Description

Gibeon Meteorite End Cut
Iron, IVA
Great Nama Land, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
Found: 1836

This unusual end cut of the iconic Gibeon Meteorite out of Namibia features a deformed Widmanstätten pattern likely due to some form of reheating, whether on the original parent body or after landing on Earth where it potentially could have been used by ancient peoples such as other examples including the famed Tucson Ring which was used as an anvil. Relatively flat and rather thick, consistent with its weight of 298 grams, the cut and etched, display face of this offering is very bright and exhibits a silvery coloration with a brushed-looking texture. This solid representation is most unusual and quite intriguing.
Measurements: 3.83 x 2.29 x 0.66 inches (9.74 x 5.82 x 1.68 cm), weighs 297.5 grams

Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
