Description

Pyritized Fossil Crinoid
Seirocrinus subangularis
Jurassic
Posidonienschiefer Formation
Holzmaden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

An exquisite single Fossil Crinoid, or "sea lily," is beautifully preserved and meticulously prepared within the rich black Shale matrix from the world-renowned fossil locality of Holzmaden, Germany. Subtle Pyrite inclusions impart a delicate, golden shimmer to the calyx and stem, enhancing the natural elegance of the fossil and lending it a quietly luminous quality. Although distinctly plant-like in form, such Crinoids were in fact marine invertebrates-filter-feeding animals that flourished in the warm, shallow seas of the Jurassic. This particular species is known to have attached itself to floating driftwood, allowing it to drift gracefully through ancient waters while feeding on plankton suspended in the current. The present specimen displays exceptional completeness and articulation, revealing fine anatomical details of both stem and crown. It is a museum-quality example of Holzmaden's famed fossil record-an elegant and scientifically significant work of natural art, marrying geological history with visual refinement.
Overall Measurements: 63.00 x 31.50 x 1.00 inches (160.02 x 80.01 x 2.54 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
