Description

Framed Fossil Palm
Sabalities sp.
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA

A natural, deep chocolate-brown mineral replacement upon a richly toned Limestone matrix distinguishes this prehistoric Fossil Palm as a specimen of remarkable beauty and scientific importance. The exceptional preservation includes the proximal end of the petiole (stem), a detail seldom seen in examples from this formation and one that enhances both its anatomical completeness and visual harmony. Evocative of the lush subtropical environment that flourished here during the Eocene Epoch, this highly aesthetic fossil represents one of the most graceful and desirable botanical species of the Green River Formation. Around 51 million years ago, the palm settled gently to the floor of a deep prehistoric lake, where the unique conditions of cold temperature, fine silt deposition, and an oxygen-deprived environment halted decay and preserved its delicate cellular structure in extraordinary detail-a geological marvel of natural artistry. Elegantly framed in exotic wenge wood and cleated for secure wall display, this piece unites aesthetic refinement with paleontological rarity. Measuring 77 x 64 inches (195 x 162 cm), it stands as a museum-quality specimen and an impressive centerpiece for any distinguished collection.
Overall Measurements: 77.00 x 64.00 x 2.00 inches (195.58 x 162.56 x 5.08 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
