Description
RhodochrositeHotazel Mine, Hotazel, John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, Northern Cape, South Africa
3.3 x 3.0 x 1.9 cm (1.30 x 1.18 x 0.75 in)
When it comes to finding nice scalenohedral Rhodochrosite specimens, one of the first localities that may come to mind is the famous N'Chwaning I Mine. Located just a stone's throw to the southeast of N'Chwaning, Hotazel Mine has produced all manner of high-grade ore and plenty of excellent Rhodochrosite specimens. The display view for this miniature-sized group of Rhodochrosite is entirely composed of dazzling translucent cherry- to strawberry-red scalenohedrons. Most of the crystals have excellent terminations and minor step-like striations that are accented by the Rhodochrosite's flashy luster. This piece can be displayed without the assistance of a base.
From the Barton Friedman "Old Stock Fluorite" featured collection.
More Information: This piece is in excellent condition.
