Description
ElbaitePaprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan
19.1 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm (7.5 x 2.2 x 1.7 in)
From the abundant mines of Paprok comes this exceptional, cabinet-sized aggregate of Elbaite crystals, displaying a wide spectrum of colors across the body of the Elbaite. The edges and midsection are a beautiful apple green, which softly transitions into a deep red; the very tips of the terminations are almost purple in hue. This piece is heavily striated all around, and has dozens of thin, gemmy parallel crystals that aggregate together into this single, vertical piece. All of these little crystals make the specimen appear vitreous and sparkling in person. Accenting the base of this crystal, almost like a matrix, is a mass of Cookite, the bright white color nicely offsetting the rainbow of hues in the Elbaite.
