Description
Native SilverQuincy Mine, Quincy Township, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA
4.6 x 4.1 x 3.9 cm (1.79 x 1.60 x 1.52 in)
Silver is the most reflective natural element known to man, so much so that even naturally crystallized specimens, patina and all, feature a unique shine that almost seems to transcend a metallic luster into something just a little more ethereal. This coral-shaped example of Native Silver displays this quality very well, particularly in the crevices of this three-dimensional cluster, where the surfaces have less oxidation. This isn't to say that the oxidation of the outermost crystals isn't as pretty; in fact, the slightly darker tones in the crevices of the chunky crystals only enhance the subtle texture of the Silver. The Silver isn't completely monochromatic either; instead it has a slightly peachy hue, adding a touch of warmth to the specimen's presentation.
Ex. Lloyd Tate collection.
