A Chavin Rock Crystal Feline Talisman
Peru, 1200-500 BC, Initial Period-Early Horizon

Despite the delicacy of the rock crystal and small size, the crouching feline has an intense, alert expression as though ambushing prey, with barred fangs, wide open eyes, and pricked ears. In excellent condition, minor small nicks on tail, traces of red ocher pigment in grooves.

The rock crystal quartz had to have been imported from Colombia or Brazil, the two areas for sources of this material in South America.
