A Maya Polychrome Vase
Mesoamerica, Classic Period, c. 600-850 AD

Earthenware painted in orange, tan, and black paints. Two deities hover over a mask or the decapitated head of a long-nosed deity. On the other side the Maize God holds a bowl and makes an offering. A vertical band of four glyphs and a large pillow-like bundle between the two scenes. In very good condition; a crack runs from the rim down 2 inches and then horizontally for about 5 inches across the lower half, with professional restoration over the break lines.
