A Large Classic Veracruz Standing Figure
Gulf Coast, Mexico, c. 300 - 500 AD

Hollow earthenware a tan color with black pigment over the face and body. Depicts a standing figure wearing strap sandals, a belt with apron, thick necklace or rope around neck, a cap with chin strap and large earflares. The face is set in an expression of awe or an intense emotion, with eyes and mouth wide open as though vocalizing. In good, restored condition. Most of these large fragile, low-fired clay figures are found in pieces and are repaired and restored. Visible repairs to proper lower part of apron and to the right leg and foot.
