Description
A Remojadas Figure on a PlatformVeracruz, Mexico, c. 300 - 600 AD
Of slab and hollow earthenware construction with red-orange, ocher, white, and black paints. The male figure laying with head stretched back onto a raised pillow, mouth open showing two upper teeth and tongue, a fabric loosely placed over his chest and arms, legs raised on an ornamented platform, anklets with bells. In good condition; reassembled from numerous pieces as found, reattachments and repairs visible.
These mysterious platform figures are interpreted as sacrificial victims or figures in ecstatic trance.
