Description

Charles Wysocki (American, 1928-2002)
Farmland
Oil on canvas
24 x 48 inches (61.0 x 121.9 cm)
Signed lower right: Charles Wysocki

PROVENANCE:
Rachel Davis Fine Arts, Cleveland, Ohio, October 24, 2015, lot 465;
Private collection, Michigan, acquired from the above.

Charles Wysocki devoted his career to capturing the charm and optimism of early American life. Much like the work of Grandma Moses, his scenes of small towns, country fairs, and simple pleasures celebrate a vision of America that feels both nostalgic and enduring. Wysocki's deliberately "naïve" style was not a limitation but a choice-an affectionate nod to the simplicity and warmth he admired in the nation's past. Reflecting the growing appreciation for his work, Heritage Auctions set a new world record for the artist when New England Skating Party sold for $112,500 in May 2025, reaffirming Wysocki's place as a beloved chronicler of Americana.
