Condition Report*: Re-varnished, unlined canvas with completely stable paint film; signed lower left, "Geo. L. Brown 1882-3-4-5" (signature appears under varnish layer); visible craquelure in water of lower 4" of central canvas, between domed buildings, and in cathedral window along left edge. Under UV examination:  (fluorescing appears as dark purple, tangerine, light blue, and pea green); only 5% of the overall canvas has had any retouching or restoration, mostly areas of reinforcing; the sky is completely untouched; flecks of in-painting occur throughout the upper cathedral and tops of domed buildings; areas of reinforcing include, on the left, the cathedral awnings and windows, gondola prow and seat, reflections below gondola, two mooring poles and, on the right, fisherman hauling in nets, the nets, lower right buoys (piers) and reflections below.   Framed to an overall size of 42 x 68 x 3 inches.
