PROVENANCE:
From the Estate of George Perle (acquired directly from the artist)
NOTE:
George Perle (1915-2009) was a composer and music theorist. Perle taught music at UC Davis from 1957-1961 where he became friends with Paul Wonner and William Theophilus Brown. He was composer-in-residence with the San Francisco Symphony from 1988 to 1990. In 1986, Perle was awarded a Pullitzer Prize for Music. Among many writings, he published "The Operas of Alban Berg" regarded as a definitive analysis of 'Wozzeck' and 'Lulu'.
