In the background of the present work, the artist has included a portrayal of the French city Rouen, which is copied directly from J.M.W. Turner's drawing Rouen from his 1835 series Rivers of France, The Loire. These drawings were later engraved by R. Wallis, T. Jeavons, J. Cousen, and others.
