Description
Spinel-Law Twinned FluoriteErongo Region, Namibia
23.3 x 5.9 x 3.2 cm (9.17 x 2.32 x 1.26 in)
Spinel-Law twins are a twinning law seen primarily in native metallics, spinel, and, as demonstrated in this case, Fluorite. This example from the Erongo Region of Namibia is an incredible, massive example of twinned Fluorite, with this single large crystal well-demonstrating the "twist" and tabular, flat structure that is characteristic of this twinning law in Fluorite. The colors are equally as fascinating, being a watercolor-like blend of greens, blues, oranges, and even purple, which really shine when the specimen is displayed with backlighting. The small side crystal to the bottom of the specimen is particularly transparent and richly colored, mainly with green, a lovely accent to this towering, twisting, and very unusual Fluorite. This is one of the largest spinel twinned fluorites, we are aware of, and certainly unique for this locality. This specimen has two clean, lock-fit repairs, and comes with a custom milled acrylic base.
