For many years J. C. Leyendecker painted special holiday covers for the Post. His Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's babies, and Easter scenes were eagerly anticipated and extremely popular. Leyendecker's exquisite paintings virtually redefined the approach to the design of the modern magazine cover. His work graced the covers of over 322 Saturday Evening Post issues, more than any other artist. That other titan of illustration, Norman Rockwell, painted 321 covers, intentionally stopping one short of Leyendecker's record because of his profound respect and admiration of the older artist. No first-rate collection of illustration art could be considered complete without a outstanding example from J. C. Leyendecker, "the unheralded King of Illustration," and offered here is a delightful Thanksgiving holiday cover scene.
