Fine Gemstone: Bicolor Tourmaline - 29.03 Ct.
Muiâne Pegmatite, Alto Ligonha District, Zambezia Province, Mozambique

Few gems display the fascinating color zoning that bicolor Tourmaline can. The percentage of large and fine gems showing this phenomenon is still very small. Here that zoning results in one end of the elongated cushion showing a transparent, medium green tint shifting in the middle to a light smoky yellow that extends to the opposite end of the gem. Concave facets indicate that the stone was probably cut and polished in the last ten to fifteen years, since this style of "fancy" cutting is relatively recent in the gem trade. It is eye clean and very large for a bicolor Tourmaline.
