Gordonsville Mine, Carthage, Centra Tennessee Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Smith Co., Tennessee, USA

As a general rule, Sphalerite from this part of the U.S. plays second fiddle to whatever mineral has grown upon it. Once in a rare while, there appears a specimen with a Sphalerite capable of holding its own without aesthetic apologies being necessary. This Sphalerite twin is one of those few that have personality to burn! It has everything. Crystal size: 1.5 inches (4.2 cm) across. Luster: Adamantine headed for metallic. Composition: Perched on the very pinnacle of a contrasting slab of gray limestone coated with druzy Quartz and sprinkled with hundreds of tiny, white Dolomite rhombs. Condition: matrix and Sphalerite are in excellent to pristine condition. As a Sphalerite from the central U.S., it has few equals.
Overall measurements: 4 x 3 x 1.5 inches (10.2 x 7.6 x 3.8 cm).
