Struthiomimus was one of the slender, fast-running ostrich-like dinosaurs that proliferated across North America just prior to the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event. Reaching speeds of up to 50 mph, it would have been able to avoid many encounters with the tyrannosaurids that dominated the food chain, but when cornered its large recurved claws would have been of no little assistance in warding off its attacker. This is a spectacularly large example, with an excellent woody texture and patina and deep blood grooves on either side, 5 3/8 inches along the outside curve with only a small amount of restoration to the proximal end.
