Description

Petrified Oak Bookends
Quercus
Miocene
Juntura Formation
Stinkingwater Mountain, Harney County, Oregon, USA

The 'rough' material that was used to make this striking matched pair of Petrified Wood bookends was Oak from the world-famous Stinkingwater locality of Oregon, known by collectors for the prized pieces to come out of the area. Harder and harder to find, such material is a true classic, and this version, in a Lapidary Art application, features the classic brushy striated soft brown hues, punctuated by the iconic black "eye" core. A fine reflective polish further enhances the visual appeal of this wonderful variety of Petrified Wood, and the pair is reasonable thick, extremely well balanced and in fine condition, with only one minor shallow chip to the inner edge near the top of the "right" side piece. Stinkingwater Oak is an amazing type of wood and highly prized by serious collectors. Classified as Quercus, the material is tops in the realm of Pacific Northwest wood, and these functional bookends, measuring 6 inches (15 cm) tall will not only hold some serious books but also naturally liven up any bookshelf with colors and patterns.
Measurements: 5.98 x 5.98 x 1.46 inches (15.20 x 15.20 x 3.70 cm)

Note: Lot does not come with books.
