This Amethyst specimen has very good coloration, with an unadulterated brightness that is more similar to Jackson Crossroads material than other Thunder Bay examples. The color is a bright, cool purple, consistent throughout the specimen. Fascinatingly, the Amethyst points have what appears to be epitaxial phantoms under the surfaces, with six "arms" of deep violet following the direction of the termination's edges. This results in a highly unusual and attractive "star" shape when looking down the axis of the termination. This kind of phantom is rare, particularly in Thunder Bay Amethysts, but also in Quartz in general. The luster of the Quartz points is surprisingly glassy, and there is very little bruising on the crystals.
