Description
Theropod Dinosaur ToothCarcharodontosaurus saharicus
Late Cretaceous
Tegana Formation, Kem Kem Basin
Sahara Desert, Morocco
From the sinister sounding Carcharodontosaurus, this gigantic tooth measuring over 5 inches (12.7 cm) is quite a sight. The broad, slightly curved, and serious serrated dentition is, obviously, from a theropod Dinosaur. This variety dating to the Late Cretaceous once dominated what is present-day Morocco, and this particular specimen is approximately 60 percent "tooth" and 40 percent "root" overall. An example of this size and quality is a rarity, and this massive blade displays a mottled caramel coloration. This big tooth is from the Kem Kem Basin of the Sahara Desert. This variety of giant Dinosaur was similar to the more popular meat-eaters like T-rex but more closely related to Gigantosaurus. The skulls alone of such prehistoric beasts could reach up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) with a body length of over 40 feet (12.2 meters) and a weight of some 7.5 tons (6.8 tonnes) making it one real enormous variety of carnivorous Dinosaur.
Measurements: 5.26 x 1.75 x 0.77 inches (13.37 x 4.44 x 1.95 cm)
