This most unique looking marine creature is called a Guitarfish. This fossil variety of the type known as Rhinobatos was unearthed in Lebanon and is a spectacular fossil, especially considering that Lebanese examples rarely have much restoration - typically just getting cleaned prior to display. Measuring 12.5 inches (32 cm), this specimen is sizable and in excellent condition. The golden-brown ray rests on a tan sedimentary matrix. A high quality of preservation is only slightly marred by two repaired linear fissure cracks across the rock and through the specimen. The back has been reinforced with a resinous coating.
