The Signet/New American Library Collection of Paperback Art

The present work is published as the cover of Dracula by Bram Stoker (Signet, 1965). Artist Stanislaw Zagórski, one of the founders of the Polish School of Posters, became one of the first successful Polish graphic designers to achieve notoriety in the United States. A graduate from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, Zagórski is well known for his work that has emblazoned book covers, record jackets, and covers for Time magazine. This final image was created via photographing the black and while elements including the title text and adding the color elements directly to the collaged gelatin silver prints, laid on board. There is a transparent overlay with crop notations. This is the unique final artwork as published and is accompanied by a print out of the cover.
