The present work is published as the cover of the 1957 Signet publication Lizzie by American horror icon Shirley Jackson. The author's third novel, this was originally released in 1954 under the title The Bird's Nest, and re-released with the title Lizzie when the film adaptation of the same name was released. The novel tells the story of 23-year old Elizabeth, who the reader slowly learns is not just one girl-but four separate, self-destructive personalities. This novel shows hallmarks of the horror master's most unsettling work: tormented heroines, riveting familial mysteries, and a disquieting vision inside the human mind.
