With their sinuous lines and erotic Edwardian associations, serpent-wrapped works were an iconic hallmark of Fabergé's designs and always in demand. Fabergé snakes slither across cigarette cases, pendants, desk accessories in stone, wood, and precious gems. A snake-entwined Imperial cigarette holder was sold in these rooms, May 17, 2024, lot 82023, and a large ashtray of related design to the offered lot was sold Christie's London, Russian Art, November 23, 2020, lot 108, from the collection of Prince Alexander of Battenberg.
