PROVENANCE:
John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington;
Acquired from the above by the present owner.

Egor Tarasovich Samoshin is one of the lesser-known Moscow makers of the turn of the 20th century.

A master of gold and silver work, he was elected in 1908 as a deputy from the manufacturers and craftsmen of Moscow to submit a petition for a reduction in the mandatory duties paid by silversmiths to governmental assayers. We do not know if his plea was successful, but we do know that he left a body of excellent small wares of very high quality.

Works by Samoshin may be seen in the State Historical Museum, Moscow.
